Music legend Mavis Staples captivated the crowd from the second she took the E.C. Glass High School stage Saturday night for Randolph College President Bradley Bateman’s inaugural concert.

But no moment drove the crowd wilder than when she called on Bateman — who had introduced her as “one of America’s great talents” three songs earlier — in the midst of belting out the 1970s Staple Singers hit, “Let’s Do It Again.”
