House panel rejects sterilization benefits

RICHMOND — Sterilization victims seeking reparations from the state that made them childless did not receive any assurance Wednesday that compensation will come this year.

With three of the victims present, and after hearing Lewis Reynolds, 86, of Lynchburg, tell again about serving 30 years in the U.S. Marines after being sterilized as a child at the Central Virginia Training Center, a House of Delegates subcommittee rejected a bill that would have compensated them.
