Although Appomattox is a town, it can now add Tree City USA to its resume.
Tree City USA is a national program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with states’ forestry departments. The program serves to recognize and promote communities that have taken special steps to care for trees. An incorporated locality becomes a Tree City USA by maintaining a tree board, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.
