Iconic Appomattox porch to undergo face lift

It’s hard to find a depiction or account of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s April 1865 surrender to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant that doesn’t involve the McLean house in Appomattox.

Beginning today, the front of the iconic house where the surrender occurred is getting a facelift, with the replacement of most of the wood on the front porch.
