A bell at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Appomattox sounded for the first time Thursday evening, standing in memory of the eight victims murdered by Christopher Speight in January 2010.

The Rev. Jim Gallagher said Holy Thursday of Passion Week, when many commemorate the events of the last week of Jesus’ life before his crucifixion, was the perfect time to unveil the bell, which is attached to a post in the church’s prayer garden.
