Fiddlers, tinkerers and technically gifted students should apply for the new XLR8 academy in Lynchburg, Director Susan Cash told students, parents and others during an open house Wednesday night.

XRL8, pronounced "accelerate" is the new Governor's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math academy set to open next fall at Central Virginia Community College. An estimated 40 to 50 people attended the Wednesday evening event — about half were high school students.
