Cassie and Shawn Martin were to mark their third wedding anniversary Wednesday, but instead, Cassie Martin spent it mourning her husband, who died less than a day after being taken into police custody.
The Lynchburg Police Department wrote in a news release they “believe that Mr. [Levon DeShawn] Martin suffered from a medical emergency while in the officers’ care.” On Wednesday, the department said it has asked the Virginia State Police to investigate the incident.
