It’s 9:30 p.m. and below freezing, but Nowlin Wingfield sits in his truck, listening to the radio.

He bundles up night after night to listen to oldies on 101.7 FM or love songs on 99.1 FM. Last week, he heard North Carolina’s basketball team narrowly upset Virginia Tech as he sat alone in the driveway.
