Appomattox shooting suspect surrenders; explosives found inside home

Authorities on Wednesday morning arrest Christopher B. Speight (center), 39, of Appomattox. Speight, who is charged in connection with eight slayings, surrendered to police Wednesday after spending the night hiding in the woods near his house.

The rainy Wednesday afternoon air in Appomattox County, already electric with tension in the wake of Tuesday’s killing spree, was ripped by the sound of explosions coming from the scene of the massacre.
