The Nelson County Public Schools division is making progress in its search for a new superintendent, and interviews with potential candidates are under way.
The Nelson County School Board accepted NCPS Superintendent Roger Collins’ official retirement notice Aug. 22 and has been working with the Virginia School Board Association since then to conduct the search for his replacement.
The application deadline was Oct. 18 and the board received 17 applications for the superintendent position.
According to Kathy Hughes, the board’s clerk and administrative assistant, the applicants have a wide range of experience levels that include the positions of current and former superintendent, assistant and deputy superintendent, central office administrator and principal and building level administrators. Applications have come from in-state and out-of-state candidates.
The board is conducting the first round of interviews Nov. 6 through 8.
