CHARLOTTESVILLE — Two University of Virginia football players have been charged with petty larceny for allegedly stealing beer from a cooler at a Charlottesville nightclub.
Will Barker, a 21-year-old junior, and freshman walk-on Dave Roberts were arrested early Saturday. Roberts also was charged with underage possession of alcohol and using a fake ID.
Barker, from the Philadelphia area, has started 25 consecutive games at offensive right tackle. Roberts also is an offensive lineman.
Local YMCA places big
Lynchburg’s YMCA swim team sent 14 swimmers to the Virginia State Age Group Swimming Championships this past weekend in Newport News and placed eighth in the team standings paced by Caleb Williams’ first-place finish in the 13-14-year-old boys 200-yard backstroke and Alyssa Reed’s blue ribbon in the 10-and-under girls 50 butterfly.
LY swimmers broke several team records and achieved multiple YMCA National qualifying times. Six swimmers will travel to the Eastern Zones competition two weekends away in Washington, D.C. — Reed, Devin Creger, Logan White, Blake Proffitt, and seniors Carter Watson (Jefferson Forest) and Jason Brame (Brookville).
This weekend, Susanna White (JF) will be competing at the YMCA National Meet in Minneapolis, Minn., while the Lynchburg Aquatic League holds its championship meet Saturday at Oakwood Country Club.
