w NEW ORLEANS — The Lynchburg College women’s track and field team was recently honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for academic and athletic accomplishments. LC had a team grade-point average of 3.28 as the Hornets tied for 30th place in Division III.

“I am tremendously proud of all the women on the team,” said Lynchburg coach James Goss.

“At Lynchburg we really emphasize academic success and this accomplishment is proof of that. These ladies are the ideal example of true student-athletes.”

There were 93 Division III women’s track and field programs recognized as 2008 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Teams. The Centennial Conference, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference each had six member schools represented on the All-Academic team list.

The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best overall finish at the Division III Indoor and/or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA.
