Lynchburg College received an at-large bid to the six-team NCAA South Regional Baseball Tournament, which begins Wednesday at American Legion Memorial Post 325 Stadium at Dan Daniel Park in Danville. The Hornets are the fourth seed and play third-seeded Piedmont College (32-12) in the first round at 7 p.m.
Salisbury (38-2) is the top seed in the South Regional and Johns Hopkins University (34-5) the No. 2 after being moved south from the Mid-Atlantic Region. Fifth-seeded Christopher Newport University (28-12) earned the USA South automatic berth.
The Hornets are 30-11 this year, which ties for the most wins in a season in school history. This will be Lynchburg’s first appearance in postseason play since 1983 and its eighth overall in program history.

Sintim, Monroe on watch lists
Virginia linebacker Clint Sintim and left tackle Eugene Monroe have been named to watch lists for two major college awards.
Sintim, who led the nation’s linebackers with nine sacks last year, is a preseason candidate for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to the country’s best defensive player. Monroe, an honorable mention all-ACC pick last season, is on the list for the Outland Trophy, which goes to the best interior lineman.

UVa’s Kim named POTW
Virginia freshman Joy Kim was named college player of the week by Golf World Magazine after finishing seventh at the NCAA East Regional Championship last week in Georgia. The Cavaliers finished fifth and earned a berth to the NCAA championships.
Men’s lacrosse
Time set in Virginia’s NCAA match
The Cavaliers’ NCAA quarterfinal match against Maryland at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., has been set for noon. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
