MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Hillcats third baseman Jim Negrych went 2-for-3 and Potomac’s Edgardo Baez broke a tie game with a solo home run in the eighth inning to lead the Carolina League All-Stars to a 3-1 win against the California League All-Stars on Tuesday.
Negrych, Lynchburg’s lone representative for the game, was the only player with two hits. His single off Ben Snyder moved Wilmington’s Joseph Dickerson to third in the second inning. Frederick catcher Matt Wieters followed with an RBI single to start the scoring.
The California League tied things up in the fifth on Archie Gilbert’s RBI single
But the Carolina League struck twice in the eighth. Baez, who pinch hit for Dickerson, hit a one-out home run off Jesse English to break the tie. Myrtle Beach shortstop Brandon Hicks would add an RBI single.
Winston-Salem closer Kenekoa Texeira earned the win, pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Myrtle Beach’s Bryan Dumesnil and Kinston’s Luis Perdomo combined for the three outs in the ninth. Perdomo got the save.
