Jefferson Forest’s Trevor Johnston (5-2) picked up the win for the Cavaliers by holding Amherst to just an earned run over six innings in Jefferson Forest’s 9-1 victory over the Lancers on Wednesday in the Seminole District tournament semifinals at Heritage.
Hunter Gordon, Matt Wallman and Bobby Shelton each had two hits for Jefferson Forest (16-4). William Sligh and Andrew Anderson were 1-for-3 for Amherst (7-11).
The Cavaliers will play the winner of Wednesday night’s Heritage/Rustburg matchup in the championship game at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers face the loser of Heritage/Rustburg in the third place game at 5 p.m.
Dogwood District Tournament
Nelson 9, Appomattox 2
Josh Ferguson went the distance, Andy Gordon, Chris Jones and Jared Truslow all knocked in homers and Nelson County 9-12) trounced Appomattox.
With the score a tight 2-1 at the end of the second inning, in favor of Appomattox, the Governors recharged for an 8-0 run over the next two innings, catapulting them to the Dogwood District finals to be played at 6 p.m. on Friday at Chatham.
Chatham 8, Altavista 3
Chatham scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put away Altavista in the Dogwood District semifinals.
Jacob Yates picked up the win and was 2-for-2 with three runs scored for the Cavaliers, who host Nelson County in the championship game at 6 p.m. on Friday. Rodney Winston was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Altavista.
Western Valley District Tournament
Franklin County 13, E.C. Glass 4
Franklin County pounded out 11 hits and 13 runs to knock off E.C. Glass in the Western Valley District semifinals. Mike Bergin was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI for the Hilltoppers.

Jefferson Forest 8, Liberty 0
Ian Case, David Jackson and Tim Bullock each scored a pair of goals for Jefferson Forest in the Cavaliers victory over Liberty in the Seminole District semifinals at Jefferson Forest. Tim Hale had 16 saves for Liberty.
Jefferson Forest plays Amherst in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Jefferson Forest. The Minutemen play Liberty in the third- place game at Jefferson Forest.
Amherst 1, Heritage 0
Amherst made Marcos Ascencio’s goal on an assist from John Ascencio in the ninth minute stand up as the Lancers knocked off Heritage in the Seminole District semifinals.
Amherst plays Jefferson Forest in Friday’s championship match at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Jefferson Forest.
The Pioneers play in the third-place game against Liberty today at Jefferson Forest.

Jefferson Forest 9, Heritage 0
Jefferson Forest’s Brittany Gallagher scored four goals for the Cavaliers’ in their victory over the Heritage at Amherst in the Seminole District semifinals. Monica Li had 18 saves for Heritage (9-8-1).
Jefferson Forest plays Staunton River on Friday in the championship game. The Pioneers play Liberty at Amherst at 5 p.m. today.
Staunton River 2, Liberty 1
Staunton River’s Kimmi D’Aiuto scored the game-winner off of a free kick four minutes into the second half and the Golden Eagles held to advance to the Seminole District championship match on Friday at Amherst against Jefferson Forest.
Liberty plays Heritage in the third place game at Amherst today at 5 p.m.
Katie Brown also scored for Staunton River. Ashton Raudo scored for Liberty.

Dogwood District Tournament
Gretna 3, Appomattox 1
Gretna’s Teresa Dalton picked up her 13th win of the season as she held Appomattox to one unearned run on four hits and a walk in the Hawks’ victory over the visiting Raiders in the Dogwood District semifinals.
Dalton (13-3) struck out 14 batters and Gretna (14-4) hosts Altavista Friday at 6 p.m. in the championship game. The Hawks will also host a Region B Quaterfinal game on Monday at 6 p.m.
Sarah Scruggs was 2-for-2 with a walk, and two RBIs and Nina Compton was 3-for-3 with double and an RBI for Gretna. Nichole Mills and Carrie Dudley also had two hits for the Hawks. Jessica McCormick was 3-for-3 for Appomattox.
Altavista 3, William Campbell 2
Brooke Short picked up the win for visiting Altavista in the Colonels’ victory over William Campbell in the Dogwood District semifinals.
Amber Martsin drove in both runs for the Generals with a single in the second. Altavista travels to Gretna for the championship game at 6 p.m. on Friday.
VIS State Tournament
Divison I Championship
Bishop O’Connell 5, LCA 1
Bishop O’Connell defeated Liberty Christian Academy 5-1 last Saturday in the Virginia Independent Schools Division I state championship game.
Rebecca Jones had the Bulldogs (17-5) only hit in the game. Kaity Harrison took the loss for LCA.
The Bulldogs defeated Paul IV 3-1 earlier in the day to advance championship game. Harrison picked up the win for the Bulldogs in that game.
Harrison allowed five hits and struck out three. Felice Lowery provided the game-winning hit, a two-run single in the top of the eighth.
