Pulaski tops Forest on late field goal
As expected, the battle between unbeatens Pulaski County and Jefferson Forest was a low-scoring, no-holds-barred, defensive battle that was decided by the narrowest of margins.
The Cougars remained perfect, improving to 4-0 on Matt Songer’s 22-yard field goal that made it 10-7 with 2:46 left to play.
Generals post third straight shutout at Cumberland
William Campbell’s football team racked up nearly 400 yards rushing and 500 yards of total offense in a 35-0 win at Cumberland Friday night, while its defense posted a third consecutive shutout.

Thomas spearheads Brookville past Byrd
Logan Thomas may have outdone himself Friday night.
The quarterback, widely considered the best senior college prospect in Virginia, accounted for five touchdowns, including two in the decisive third quarter of Brookville’s 49-34 win over William Byrd.

Glass to host third Hilltoppers cross country invite
A total of 14 teams are expected for Saturday’s third-annual Hilltopper Invitational cross country meet hosted by E.C. Glass at Virginia Episcopal School’s Presbyterian Homes 5K course.

Jefferson Forest cross country coach Jerome Loy enjoys blending music and running, most notably at the annual Runnin’ with the Wolves Invitational at Wolf Branch Farm, with boom boxes blaring appropriately themed tunes at strategic points along the Cavaliers’ home course.

Generals, Bees post big shutout wins on road
Stanley Peerman returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown and added two more rushing scores in the first half to ignite William Campbell’s offense in a 33-0 win over Magna Vista while Logan Thomas threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in Brookville’s 36-0 rout at Lord Botetourt.
Bulldogs bomb Valley Forge 40-0
It took all of 21 seconds for Liberty Christian Academy to score its first touchdown against Valley Forge Military Academy on Friday at Williams Stadium.
The play, a 72-yard bomb from quarterback Mike Rocco to wide receiver Patrick Kelly, was just a taste of what was in store for the rest of the game. Rocco followed that TD strike with five more, four to Kelly, as the Bulldogs rolled to a 40-0 victory.
Amherst’s Vaughn jets past GW
Mario Vaughan rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns, and Jamar Glover added 108 yards on the ground as Amherst County defeated George Washington 34-13 on Friday night.

Jefferson Forest’s defense made sure the Black and Blue Bowl lived up to its name Thursday night at City Stadium.
The Cavaliers’ defense dominated E.C. Glass allowing the Hilltoppers just 56 yards of total offense and just two first downs as JF improved to 3-0 with a 20-0 victory.

Tonight, the Lancers travel to former Western District rival GW-Danville, which advanced to the Northwest Region championship game last year.

Jefferson Forest sweeps tri-meet
RUSTBURG — Perennial Seminole District cross country rivals Brookville and Jefferson Forest competed on neutral turf on Wednesday, waging a surprisingly one-sided tri-meet at Rustburg’s second-year 3.1-mile course at Seneca Commerce Park.

Bees shut out Salem
SALEM — Brookville ended Salem’s 35-game regular-season winning streak and dealt the Spartans their first shutout loss in 153 games — dating back to 1996 when coach Jeff Woody helped the Bees blank them 21-0 as a senior receiver — with a 14-0 triumph Friday night at Salem Stadium.
Sparked by running back Stacy Houston, who rushed 19 times for 143 yards and both touchdowns, Brookville (3-0) eliminated some of the Salem mystique that has made it almost unbeatable at home.
