For more than nine months, defensive tackle David Wang stood as Virginia Tech’s only football commitment for 2009.

He has company now.

The Hokies’ class of 2009 now includes 5-foot-9, 180-pound cornerback James Hopper, 6-0, 185-pound cornerback Jerrodd Williams and 6-0, 170-pound kicker Cody Journell, all of whom made oral commitments over the weekend, according to recruiting Web site Rivals.com.

Tech also received a commitment from 6-6, 300-pound King William High School offensive lineman Nick Acree for 2010.

Hopper, who had 88 tackles and an interception last season at Seventy-First High School in Fayetteville, N.C., also had scholarship offers from Duke, Wake Forest and Elon.

Williams had 68 tackles and four interceptions last season at D.W. Daniel High School in Central, S.C. He also returned kickoffs, averaging 44 yards per return with three touchdowns.

Journell, an all-Group A selection out of Giles High School last season, is Tech’s second in-state commit for 2009.

Wang, the younger brother of Hokies starting left tackle Ed Wang, committed in early September.
