Cornerback Mike Brown was dismissed from the Virginia football team, according to a two-paragraph release put out by the school Sunday.
In February, Brown was charged with three felonies—grand larceny, possession of stolen property with intent to sell and altering serial numbers—after being accused of stealing stereo equipment and trying to sell it on eBay. He hasn’t participated with the Cavaliers since.
The case will be heard by a grand jury later this month.
Brown was arrested three times during his rocky UVa career. In April he was charged with two misdemeanors—driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a blood/breath test. That case has been continued to Sept. 19.
The Newark, N.J., native played in 24 total games in 2005 and ’06. He had 31 tackles during his career and returned 14 punts for a 9.6-yard average in 2006.
He missed all of last year after suffering a knee injury during a summer workout.
