Liberty University rising senior Megan Frazee is preparing for a two-week tour of Northern Africa with a women’s basketball team from Athletes in Action. Frazee and her teammates will depart AIA headquarters, located in her hometown of Xenia, Ohio, on Sunday and return to the U.S. on Aug. 5. While in Africa, the AIA team will play a number of games as well as conduct clinics and spread the gospel.
“I am really looking forward to this trip,” said Frazee, who was named the Big South Conference female athlete of the year this week. “I have always wanted to go on a trip with Athletes in Action. I really like how AIA uses sports to reach people for Christ. It is amazing that the Lord can use a simple game of basketball to touch the hearts and lives of those around the world.”
NABF director suffers stroke
Virginia Amateur Baseball League Director G.R. Wiley had a minor stroke Wednesday in Cookeville, Tenn., where he was staying en route to Hopkinsville, Ky., for a 15-under National Amateur Baseball Federation World Series Tournament.
He is expected to be released today from a hospital in Cookeville and available for next week’s NABF 17-under World Series based in Lynchburg, with opening ceremonies set for Wednesday night before the Lynchburg Hillcats game at City Stadium.
Late Wednesday night, his blood pressure and hydration levels were stable but he was kept in the intensive care unite to monitor him overnight.
“He is doing better,” said Susan Hall of Central Virginia Trucking Co., Inc., where Wiley works. “He has feeling in his arm again and is consulting with his doctors. He thinks if he gets out, he’s going to the World Series in Hopkinsville. He just loves baseball.”
