WASHINGTON (AP) - It’s been a good five days since the last presidential election, so naturally it’s time to start the speculation about the 2012 race.

From their travel schedules to their public comments, several Republicans appear to be testing the waters.

At least two are planning visits to Iowa this month, the state that traditionally opens the nominating season with its presidential caucuses.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is slated to deliver a keynote address to the Iowa Family Policy Center, a prominent Christian conservative group.

He was thought to have been on John McCain’s short list of potential running mates and is considered a rising star in the GOP.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is scheduled to visit Iowa as part of a nationwide tour promoting his campaign memoir, “Do the Right Thing.”

Meanwhile, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has restarted his political action committee.

And of course, there’s Sarah Palin. Commenting on her efforts as McCain’s running mate, the Alaska governor said: “I’m not doing this for naught.”
