ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke is considering an expansion project that would give it enough space for an exhibit of native Virginia animals.
Mill Mountain Zoological Society President Sara Brooks says the zoo wants about 2 acres of land for the expansion. Currently the zoo leases 8 acres from the city.
Executive Director Dave Orndorff says whatever the zoo does won’t detract from the area’s scenic beauty.
Any expansion would require approval from the Mill Mountain Advisory Committee, the city Department of Parks and Recreation and the City Council.
