ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Authorities closed a portion of U.S. 220 in Roanoke County for several hours after a truck carrying explosives overturned and spilled acetic acid.
Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department spokeswoman Jennifer Conley Sexton says there was no danger to the public.
The northbound and southbound lanes were closed between Yellow Mountain and Indian Grave roads after the accident occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Cleanup crews removed the acetic acid and the highway reopened around 10:10 a.m.
Traffic was backed up for at least half a mile after the accident. The Virginia Department of Transportation says traffic was routed to nearby roads.
