RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Richmond International Airport officials are planning $1 billion in improvements to handle anticipated growth in passenger traffic.
The airport just completed a $78 million makeover of its passenger terminal. A new master plan calls for adding runway capacity, terminal space, aviation facilities and parking spaces to accommodate increases in aircraft, passenger and cargo traffic.
Jon Mathiasen, the airport’s president and chief executive, says making the plan a reality depends on a rebound in airport traffic, which has been slumping since April.
The master plan for the airport layout will go to the Federal Aviation Administration for approval, expected in the spring.
