RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—The NAACP is reviewing new data on Virginia’s preparations for Election Day.
A lawyer for the civil rights group said the new information is why the NAACP withdrew its request for a hearing Thursday challenging the state’s readiness for Tuesday’s unprecedented voter turnout.
Henry Marsh III said the lawsuit has not been withdrawn.
State officials did not immediately respond to the action by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The hearing was on the Virginia NAACP’s request to require the state to add voting machines and extend voting times. The civil rights group contends the state is not prepared for unprecedented voter turnout in next Tuesday’s presidential election.
