RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The presidential battle for Virginia continued Monday with a Richmond visit by Arizona Senator John McCain.
The likely Republican nominee for president was in Richmond for the first of two fundraisers. His first was a closed event in downtown Richmond and the second is Monday evening in McLean.
Before the luncheon fundraiser, McCain stopped at a boutique coffee shop nearby.
In the hand-picked group of supporters was Paul Galanti, a fellow prisoner of war in Hanoi, who is now one of McCain’s Virginia campaign co-chairmen.
McCain and his wife Cindy shook hands for about five minutes and McCain hugged Galanti.
Among Republicans at the Richmond fundraiser were Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, Attorney General Bob McDonnell and former Gov. Jim Gilmore, the Republican nominee for a Virginia Senate seat this year.
