QUANTICO, Va. (AP) — The National Museum of the Marine Corps is planning to expand.
Officials say the museum also is celebrating its millionth visitor. It has become a top Virginia destination, and recent surveys found that 75 percent of its visitors were from outside Virginia.
The museum plans to expand to include three additional galleries with exhibits covering the periods from 1775 through World War I.
The galleries will feature immersive experiences similar to those already featured at the museum. Construction on the new galleries will begin in October with the opening expected in the spring of 2010.
