Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine today accepted a ceremonial check from Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula I. Otto to reflect $455 million in profits for Virginia’s public schools.

“Virginia’s investment in educating its young people pays dividends for the entire commonwealth, far into the future,“ Kaine said. The profit for fiscal 2008 was driven by sales of $1.386 billion. Of that amount, $792.3 million went back to players in prizes.
Lottery officials said the biggest winning ticket of the year was an $82.5 million share of the $330 million Mega Millions jackpot, won by two brothers in Buckingham County on August 31, 2007.
