ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Charges have been dismissed against a former deputy in the corruption case involving the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.
A federal court order filed Monday officially cleared Jason Allen Burton. A pretrial diversion agreement had said five firearms charges against him would be dropped if he stayed out of trouble for a year.
Burton was among 20 defendants indicted in November 2006 as investigators cracked a scheme to sell drugs and guns seized from criminals. The charges against Burton related to an illegal machine gun, and were not part of the focus of the racketeering investigation.
Burton was the third defendant charged in connection with the machine gun to have his charges dismissed. The fourth, former Vice Officer Travis Wilkins, received probation and a $1,500 fine.

“Cleared” is the incorrect word to use in the caption. “Dismissed” is the correct word to use. The whole freakin’ department is corrupt. The citizens of Henry should clean house come election time.
