Main Street was closed at its intersection with Holbrook Avenue and Holbrook Road as firefighters fought flames coming from the roof at 145 Holbrook Ave. shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Traffic was being diverted away from the corner, where fire trucks blocked the road.
Firefighters had the blaze under control within an hour and the intersection was open shortly afterward.
At press time, the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
A few hours earlier, Danville firefighters responded to a call from 215 College Ave.
“We smelled something burning and couldn’t find it,” Gail Allen, a resident in the house, said. “We walked all over the house and couldn’t find it. We called to ask the fire department to come check it.”
She said she was very pleased with the response.
“The next thing we knew, we had an army of firemen here,” Allen said. “They really came in a hurry; I’m very impressed.”
A report on the cause of that fire was not yet available.
