The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of cremated ashes taken from a home in the 1800 block of Country Club Road in Hurt.
The burglary was originally reported on Aug. 24, but according to Capt. Keith Isom, the homeowner did not discover that her mother’s remains had been taken until Wednesday.
Isom said that anyone with information about the missing ashes should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-791-0044.

“Cremated ashes”? Shouldn’t that have been “Cremated remains” or “The ashes from so & so’s cremation”? Were they in some kind of container? Now, I’m no Sherlock Holmes, but, I don’t think there is very much of a market for “hot” ashes. It seems to me that there is a good chance they were in a container and THAT is what the thieves found attractive. If the article would have said that and perhaps gave a description we all could have been on the look-out.
