RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Commercial vehicles traveling Virginia’s highways are undergoing mandatory inspections as part of a national safety effort.
Authorities announced the 72-hour Roadcheck 2008 campaign Tuesday. Virginia State Police troopers and supervisors are looking for safety violations and threats on highways and at weigh stations across the state.
The campaign is sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
State police say that last year, 8,807 of the 37,274 commercial vehicles inspected were pulled out of service for violating safety equipment regulations and rules governing transporting hazardous materials.
