For inspired leadership, vote Obama
In a recent letter to the editor, a writer asks about Barack Obama, “He can inspire, but can he lead?” I think the author has it backwards. The better question is, “can the candidate for office inspire?” Can the candidate inspire us to act to our better natures instead of playing to our fears? Can the candidate inspire us to do the hard things that will preserve the freedoms we cherish so greatly instead of allowing the winds of opinion to sway the agenda?

The News & Advance gave the conservative Christian views of John McCain’s vice-presidential pick headlines. Yet, the only qualifications stated for Sarah Palin were her opposition to abortion and her support for the traditional family. It is a sad day in America when the only qualification for the second highest office in the land is to make public statements opposing abortion as a legal option and opposing recognition of homosexual unions.

The right-wing radicals will question the leadership of a man who is inspiring many to go beyond disagreements and find room where we can work together. After all, in a politics as usual, controversy is used to create fear, radical organizations can then ask for money, and lobbyists can keep their cushy jobs. We need inspiration. We need inspired leadership. America needs Obama.

Don’t forget Barr
I’m fed up with the onslaught of negative television ads that have been polluting the airways of the past few days. I expect we will see even more between now and Nov. 4.  Why can’t the politicians just tell us what they are going to do for us, and more importantly, how?

Both John McCain and Barack Obama are slinging mud like there is no tomorrow. Neither is focusing on solutions to the problems we face. Thankfully, there is a choice. Former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr, Libertarian party candidate, is also on the ballot in Virginia and he’s won my support. Barr has a record of integrity and accomplishment and his campaign is running on the issues.  Bob tells us in great detail of his plans for dealing with our nation’s energy needs, the war in Iraq, our economy and so many, many more.

A few examples. Barr has a plan to increase domestic energy production. He supports the building of new refineries and expansion of the use of clean coal and nuclear resources, both of which would be a source of jobs and income to Virginians, and a boost to local economies. Barr is 100 percent pro-gun and he deserves 100 percent of the votes of gun owners and hunters everywhere. He has been a champion of gun ownership rights and was elected to the board of directors of the National Rifle Association. And lastly, he is a bright man who has the courage to stand up against the powerful special interests in Washington, with the experience of being a former congressman. He will fight to shrink government spending and lower our taxes. And these are only a few of the examples of his plans for a Barr presidency.

I just can’t bring myself to vote, with integrity, for the lesser of two evils. The lesser of two evils is still evil.

So what is your view of Palin now Mr. Falwell? It’s obvious that Ms Palin neglected to teach her children the “Family (Christian) Value” of “Sexual Abstinence”. If Falwell truly believed in Family Values, as he preaches, he would have denounced his support for the Vice Presidential candidate by now. Does this mean that it is now ok for LU students to have sex as long as they have an agreement that they will marry if the girl become pregnant? This is just an example of the hypocrisy that we are sick of coming down from the Mountain of Eternal Hatred. Practice what you preach TRBC! If you denounce those that do not teach their children proper “Christian Values” than you should denounce this VP candidate. OH! But that would mean you would have to tell your congregation that they should not vote in this year’s election, and we can’t have that. After all, politics is your religion, Jesus is your republican muscle man and GOD is your tool to instill fear in the hearts of your congregation to get them to vote “The Republican Way”. The Republican Is Thy Savior, Rejoice in the G.O.P.!

(This is a repost from the “Falwells: Palin to help McCain in key areas” article. It seemed to fit here too.)

Brian,

As an African American I just can not bring myself to vote Obama.  He is simply too risky of a choice for America.  From voting “present” 106 times while in the state senate, to serving only 143 days in D.C. before starting his run for Pres, he is too much of an unknown.  Even Biden and Hillary have questioned his experience.  While Palin was serving in an executive position and operating a budget, Obama was listening to Father Phlegar, Rev. Wright and others preaching hate.  Combine that with the fact that John McCain has proven that he can reach across the aisle to work with the opposing party.  Biden got through college by cheating and is the VP choice of Mr. Change by serving 35 years in D.C.?  I know he rode taxpayer subsidized Amtrak every day at $97 each way.  Much more than taking a hybrid Toyota and much easier on the environment.

“For the first time in my adult life, I am actually proud of my country”.

“White mans greed run a world in need”

Unless you are a bigot or sexist, you will vote republican this year.

Lincoln was a Republican.
LBJ depended on the Republicans to pass Civil Rights legislation.
GHWB passed legislation for handicapped americans.

Clinton passed DOMA.

BRIAN JABLONSKI I agree with you.  When I hear people say that all Mr. Obama can do is speak and inspire I have to laugh.  As if that is some “little” thing.  Winston Churchill had wine with breakfast, whisky with lunch and port & brandy the rest of his waking hours.  Even his closest friends and family members reported that he was drunk from dawn to bed time.  He was rarely asked to be a house guest more than once and even roamed the halls of the White House in his underpants, late at night, looking for a drink.  Many people detested him.  Few people today doubt that it was his talking and inspirational ability that gave the British the strength to “bear any burden and fight any fight” to remain free.  America can use a lot of that!  What we can’t use are people who think they have some right to cram their religious beliefs down other peoples throats.

John McCain is obviously taking a big risk with Sarah Palin. The following link will permit you to view Sarah Palin preaching from the pulpit asking the congregation to pray for God to provide a $30 billion national gas pipeline. And most important to us all is that Alaska is to become a refuge state “during the later days” for all us folks that live in the lower 48.
This lady is strange. This lady is dangerous.
