Indict the president? You’ve got to be crazy
The author of a July 22 letter to the editor stated his belief that that President Bush should be indicted for war crimes! That is absurd and ridiculous. President Bush has done an overall good job (not perfect and some mistakes), but what president has not made mistakes during his term?

Letters to the editorClick to send

I cannot recall any perfect ones in my lifetime, and I have lived under 12 presidents. One thing stands out in my mind: the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. Have we had any attacks since then on U.S. soil? No. I believe President Bush deserves some credit for that, don’t you think? Security has been foremost in his presidency, as well as trying to help a small country have some form of democracy and freedom.

While I am writing I would like to mention the current candidates for the upcoming elections in November and give my assessment of them. Senator Barack Obama is unknown and has only been a U.S. Senator for a couple of years; to my knowledge, he has not accomplished anything helpful or of any real significance to our country. He talks good but talk is cheap; action speaks louder than words.

Sen. John McCain is a war hero, a veteran and former POW for more than five years with experience in the U.S. Senate for a number of years. He’s a real American who understands war and has experienced it personally. He does not require any “on the job” training to become president of the United States. If he picks the proper candidate for vice president, I believe he can win. My choice for vice president to run with McCain is Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State and a very smart and intelligent woman who has good credibility and is known around the world with excellent background and history of serving her country. The team of McCain and Rice can serve us well and will be a formidable force for the future.

Now back to the letter writer, he and I both have the right to state our opinions; that is another reason we need to maintain our freedom as Americans and help keep this country strong.

Obama and abortion
If voters want to vote for Barack Obama, it’s their rightful choice; if voters who call themselves Christians want to vote for Barack Obama, they may want to identify themselves as something other than “Christian.”

All you have to do is to know a little about Obama’s voting record in the Illinois Senate, where he voted against a bill (three times) that would prevent doctors from inducing labor, and then letting these babies die, alone and unattended. This is post-birth abortion, clearly infanticide.

But then, it’s not surprising that Obama would see nothing wrong with this: Obama said right out loud that he didn’t really know when life began. (Perhaps it begins in the second year of college and ends when one becomes old and disabled?) Even NARAL and other abortion supporters didn’t think that banning this post-birth abortion “procedure” was really about abortion. Even Hillary Clinton voted for the national version of the bill Obama killed.

So don’t you folks go to church and pray, and then tell me that you support a man who in his official capacity as state senator of Illinois decided that already-born babies didn’t have a right to life! One day, a similar monster may arise and tell you that you’re too old to live, or too poor, or too feeble. Or of the wrong sex. Or race.

Martha there is no ‘discussing ideas’ with fools like you…mindless is probably a very mild word to use for people who are destroying everything wholesome that this country has had to offer dating back to the time we won our independence from Great Britian. Liberals like yourself want peace at any price, are in love with government beauracracy, and refuse to stand up to the enemies that want all of us dead. There is no logic at all to any of your arguments and the policies that your side comes up with only makes our nation weaker. Now I’m sure my bad attitude toward you is all George Bush’s fault, but I hate to think we should just stand around while you and your liberal peace-at-any-price friends bring us closer to our own destruction. I cant understand why all of you dont just pack up and move to europe. If you are so in love with the way they do things over there and hate the way America has traditionally governed, why must you try to change everything here? Your stupid argument about abortion makes no sense at all. You have killed over a million people since Roe and justify this because a very small percentage of the population falls victim to rape or incest? You speak of causulties in Iraq as though there should be no such thing in a time of war? We would have never became a nation of freedom if people like you were voicing their lousy opinions in 1776. We would have lost both World Wars and surrendered on the second or third week of battle if you had your way. You complain about America’s troops being stationed around the world as if we should just let some other nation provide the saftey from tyranny that comes without democracy. Your love affair with our government school system continues to lower our educational standards every year to the point that many major colleges and universities have to give their medical and engineering scholarships to students that come here from other nations while our high school graduates get jobs working cash registers. Where have all the moral and educational standards that shaped this nation gone? Who knows, but I bet it is’s George Bush’s fault

Fred,

Osama, I mean Obama has disagreed with you this week about Iraq.  Once again, you have been proven wrong.  Are you right about anything?  Time to change the medicinal weed.

JackSin PoleLock,

McCain isn’t as old as you and it appears that both of you suffer from the same form of dementia.  Maybe ya’ll can get a group discount on the treatment?

Martha,

I respect you a lot for what you have gone through in life and even though you are a liberal, I like you.  I think character is made in a person, by the problems in life that they have overcome.  I think you have overcome a lot, and I think you are a person of character.  I will attempt to give you an honest answer to each of the questions you have posted for me.  I would like to preface my answers with the statement that both you and I are in agreement in caring about the girls in an unfortunate situation for them.  But I would like to ask for you to take your focus off of the girls and on to the baby.  The girls will need all of the love and care that everyone can give them.  But should the baby suffer a horrible death because the girl made a mistake?

1) If Roe were made illeagal would abortions end?
no.  Drugs are illegal and they come in every day.  Murder is illegal and many still happen every day.  They won’t stop, but should we stand by and tacitly approve while our fellow citizens are killed?

2) If a woman had an abortion after Roe was made illegal should she go to jail?
no.  she should only pay a fine because her mental capacity may not be 100% at the time

3)If the woman who has an illegal abortion then should the provider go to jail?
first of all, I would like to change the terminology from the politically correct term “provider”, and use the term that it actually is, “abortionist”.  If there isn’t anything wrong with it, why the change to a term that is “sanitized”.

yes. He has violated the LIFE part of our laws.
and in addendum, if the provider is a Dr.?
yes.  and in addition, he should lose his license.  He has violated the Hippocratic oath of which I have pasted what I think is a relevant portion..
“I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.

To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor give advice which may cause his death.

Nor will I give a woman a pessary to procure abortion.“

he should lose his license

4) If the woman performs her own, safe hopefully, home abortion should she go to jail?
no jail time for a woman that does this to herself because she may not be mentally stable at this time.

5) How long should the sentences be? Would you raise taxes to support all those incarcerated people?

No prison.  No tax increase.

In conclusion, I think we should all step back and try not to think what is “right” to only the future nother, but also to the future baby.  She may have made a mistake, but that should not be a reason to deprive the child of its constitutional rights.  Many, many people would like to adopt a child here in the U.S., and there aren’t enough kids to go around.  Adoption centers have popped up all over the U.S. specializing in international adoptions for chinese, korean, romanian, russian, etc. babies.  We don’t have enough here that will satisfy the demand, so we are even importing our children.

As we have “killed” 55 million americans over the past 35 years, we have started “importing” our labor in the form of illegal immigrants.  None of which add to our tax base as legal american citizens do.  For the radical left, abortion as a means of population control has been a miserable failure.  I’m not suggesting that you do, but there is a segment out there that does.

You are right (Martha)!  It is unfortunate that childish name calling and insulting seems to be the only form of communication available to some posters here.  Since the N&A;permits it (as they should) it is up to the rest of us to simply ignore the rudeness and understand that “They know not what they do.“...  As The Buddha once was reported to have done….treat fools with <silence>...

Flash10-
Just beause you SAY Liberals are mindless doesn’t make it so. I wish everyone who posts here would discuss and stick to the topic instead of labeling people, calling them stupid or mindless and being generally ugly.
This could be a wonderful place for people to get together and actually discuss ideas w/out mud-slinging if people would check their harmful speech at the “click” of their mouse.

Suddenly I realized I should have answered oldman66 before I threw him into the garbage can to join luv and LU Grad.

I am keeping the score Bush v. bin Laden. I am sure oldman66 would have been interested and I hope he can hear me down there. Here it is so far:

Osama bin Laden:

-  3,000 American innocent civilians dead
-  World Trade Center destroyed

George W. Bush:

-  4,100 American soldiers dead
-  1,000s of American soldiers maimed for life
-  300,000 American soldiers with mental   problems
-  320,000 American soldiers with head injuries
-  Suicide rate among returning vets jumping off the charts
-  3 trillion dollars wasted
-  America most despised country in the world
-  Constitution trampled (they swore to protect it you say? Obviously God did not help much!)

-  Over 500,000 Iraqi innocent civilians dead (according the Johns Hopkins and The Lancet studies)(the US military does not keep a tally of civilian deaths – I wonder why?)
-  Over 2,000,000 Iraqi civilians displaced
-  Iraq looted and destroyed (except for the Oil Ministry guarded by American tanks and snipers on roof tops!)
-  Even less electricity, water, sewage treatment and oil than before the war

Drums! Trumpets! The envelope please! And the winner is …  your hero, George W. Bush! Congratulations!

Why should bin Laden bother to attack the US again. He has found somebody on the inside to do it for him and, I must admit, with astonishing success.

oldman66 (can you hear me?), you got your adage wrong. For you, it should be:  “This is My Country – Right or WRONG!” You should rejoice; luv and LU Grad feel the same way! You are now in good company. Please stay there.

Martha.  What is right in one case. as I’m sure you will agree, is not always right in another.  An incestuous relationship or rape, or just a rape would change the decision of the woman who may not have a choice if Sidney McBush is elected president.  I applaud your decision to have the baby; McBush, obviously, would just as soon there be more women like you who find that although their “men” can get Viagra paid by the insurance companies and impregnate the women, the women are not given the same financial incentive to protect themselves with birth control.  Hence, deadbeat dads, in many cases, who can spread their seeds to women without protection.  There is something fundamentally wrong with that concept to any reasonable individual, and especially Christians, of which Bush and his surrogate, McCain, are not.

Cosmo is so right.  The issue is not about pro-life; it is about control of a woman’s body by a patriarchal society led by such wienies as Bush and McCain (the Connecticut cowboy and the man who is likely to forget where he put his Viagra - was it in on the Iraq/Afghan border or in Czechoslovakia?)

oldman:  McCain doesn’t sound so bad?  Have you heard him during the past week.  He is a pathetic old man whose only “experience” is being a war “hero” in a war that many of the new voters could care less about.  He has no economic policy (letting Phil “The nation is a bunch of whiners” Gramm dictate his “economic” policy), no Iraq policy except for the failed policy of Bush II, no environmental policy except for a short period of time when he was opposed to off-shore drilling in certain areas - he was against it before he was for it - flip-flop?).  He is such a sad old man, oldman.

Peace to all but luv.  For luv <silence>
