Thumbs up, along with congratulations, to Parks Snead, named Friday as Lynchburg’s new police chief. He succeeds Charles Bennett, who retired from the post last year.
Snead has been a member of the force since 1984 and dedicated his career to serving and protecting the residents of Central Virginia. He’s worked his way up through the city police department and now will cap his career as its chief.
We hope the new chief continues his open ways with the members of the Lynchburg community. It’s through openness and availability that trust is engendered on both sides of the law enforcement fence.

Parks Snead is a good man but I’m afraid he was chosen primarily because he will cave in to Kimball Payne every time. It is unfortunate that we now have Police and Fire Chiefs that will give the city manager whatever he wants, whenever he wants it.
