Thumbs down, whoever and wherever they are, to the vandals who recently targeted Amazement Square’s skatepark.
A community project between the children’s museum, the city Rotary clubs and various other civic organizations, the park opened less than a year ago. It’s become a favorite spot of Central Virginia boarders, but also a favorite target of some punk vandals.
Now, according to Amazement Square officials, there is the real possibility the skatepark might close. That would be a tragedy for everyone involved: the groups who worked so many years to make the park a reality, the city and the area kids and teens who frequent the park.
If you’ve got any information on the perpetrators of these acts of vandalism, call the Lynchburg Police Department at 455-6050. Do it for the kids.

bigjimm,
Those dang little skallywanker skater kids and their silly hair cuts! Their probably all in it together and planned the whole thing out at their super secrete skater community meeting every other full moon night.
The golf club probably knows who’s not been covering their divots.
I’m sure the local car clubs know too who’s has been breaking into cars downtown.
I bet the mountain bike club knows who have been riding on the ‘walking only’ trails at Blackwater too.
We should also question the kennel club to find out who has not been cleaning up after their dog in Wyndhurst.
Point is, it’s arrogant and bias to make such a remark about a group of people who happen to all enjoy a particular activity.
Note: I do not skateboard or golf, I do not break into cars, I do not ride my bike on ‘walking only’ trails, and I do clean up after my dog.

Did I miss the comments on how terrible the vandalism was at the historic St. John’s Church in Bedford Co.? There were articles about both vandalism incidents but is our editor outraged at the church vandalism? Did I miss it?

The skater community knows who is responsible for this and if they want their park to stay open they need to come forward.
The kids need to do this for themselves just to prove to the rest of us that they are not what they appear to be.
