Thumbs up to the family of Jeremy Austin, who have found hope and purpose in the 2007 death of their son and brother in a traffic accident.
Austin and his sister, Melissa Hudson, were traveling on U.S. 460 and crashed. Austin wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and died; his sister was and lived.
Hudson and her mother, Theresa Baker, have turned their profound grief into working for seat belt awareness. They teamed up with regional police agencies to produce a public service announcement about the benefits of wearing seat belts. In Virginia, about 80 percent of people buckle up; in Lynchburg, it’s about 85 percent. Police hope to get that up to 90 percent this year.
With help from folks like Melissa Hudson and Theresa Baker, they can.

God bless this family for working thru their grief in this way. Doing this honors their beloved brother in a very constructive way.

How about with the help of State Law Makers! How about Virginia joining the rest of the civilized world and giving TICKETS for not wearing seat belts? I understand the grief involved here, but, lets be painfully honest. If the young man who died wouldn’t listen to his family what makes anybody think total strangers will? Nice try, but no cigar.
