The implosion to take down the former Dan River Inc. Dye House went off about 20 minutes late this morning and had a couple of hitches.

What appears to be an elevator shaft was left standing and one of the smokestacks fell the wrong way.

Police stationed along Memorial Drive had their hands full preventing people from stopping their cars in the middle of the road to watch the implosion, as well as keeping pedestrians from getting too close to the site.

Officers had their hands full near the bridges as well, with irate drivers complaining about detours and people trying to cross police lines to get closer to the blast; groups of people even reportedly tried to sneak under the bridge and were moved out by police.

Lt. J.T. Henderson of the Danville Police Department said no injuries have been reported from the blast.
