Long-distance service has been restored to Verizon customers in the region after it was out of order most of the morning.

Some of the company’s electronic equipment in Blairs, just north of Danville, failed this morning, according to company spokesman Harry Mitchell.

Mitchell said the outage was probably related to storms that went through the region Thursday night and this morning.

Verizon worked to reroute traffic that normally goes through that equipment.

By 1:30 p.m., some service was restored to the region. By 2 p.m. Mitchell learned that all the call traffic had been rerouted, restoring full service.

Mitchell said he does not have information on the number of customers the outage affected.
