A Saturday afternoon 4-wheeler accident hospitalized two children with severe injuries.

Appomattox County Rescue Squad President Susan Walton said the incident happened on Virginia 654 (Watt Abbitt Road), off of Virginia 24, near Vera.

The two were flown by medical helicopter to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

State police dispatchers said a call came in for a Medflight helicopter at 4:44 p.m., but due to weather concerns, it wasn’t able to make it to the scene until 6:15.

Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department also responded to set up a landing zone for the helicopter.

Walton said there were no other vehicles involved, and no witnesses to the accident. Rescue workers were not able to get information from the victims, whom Walton classified as “young.”

“It was very difficult to tell what actually happened,” she said.

The victims’ names were not released, and Walton said she was unsure of the extent of the injuries.

I’m surprised there has been no follow-up article about this incident. Surely, three days after it happened, there must be some information about the ages and conditions of the children.
