Super 8 motel shooting suspect turns himself in

Police say the man charged with first-degree murder in the April 20 shooting at Lynchburg’s Super 8 motel turned himself in Saturday night.

Lt. J.C. Bauserman said Marcious Antoine Cousins, 25, arrived at the Lynchburg Police Department’s complaint desk at 9:54 p.m.

Cousins is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Michael Colton Blanchard Jr., who was shot in the parking lot of the Super 8 motel on Candlers Mountain Road. The shooting happened at 3:28 a.m.

Cousins faces charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Bauserman said the search for Cousins reached as far as Fredericksburg and its surrounding jurisdictions, where he said they believe Cousins was staying.

There was no expectation that Cousins would turn himself in, Bauserman said.

He is being held without bond at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center.
