The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 5 p.m. for the city of Lynchburg, Campbell County, southwestern Appomattox County and southeastern Bedford County.
At 3:50 p.m., Doppler radar indicated a severe storm capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
The storm was located about 6 miles northwest of Hurt moving east at 30 mph.
Intense rain and damaging winds are likely, the weather service said. Much of Central Virginia remains under a Severe Storm Watch until 8 p.m.
