A downtown Lynchburg restaurant was robbed and one of its employees abducted Friday afternoon.

Police arrested Edward Lee Cox, 37, of Lynchburg, in connection with a robbery and abduction at The Academy Café on Commerce Street.

According to a café employee, Cox entered the building with a knife shortly before noon, demanding money from the female employee at the counter, police said.

He left the building with the employee, but once outside, he released her and fled the scene.

Two citizens helped the officers take Cox into custody, recovering the money along with the knife.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lynchburg Police Investigator J.C. Romano at 455-6054 or Central Virginia Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.
