Ward III City Council challenger Nat Marshall formally announced his candidacy for office late this morning.
Marshall, who's seeking to unseat one-term incumbent Jeff Helgeson, named education, workforce investment and smart growth as the priorities of his campaign.
"This is an exciting time to be in Lynchburg as we witness the awakening of a brand new day," he said. "Instead of the fear of change that has gripped us for so many years, we now appear ready to embrace the wonderful new opportunities that change can bring - nationally, regionally and right here in Lynchburg."
Marshall, 46, is the human resources director for the Babcock & Wilcox Company. He currently serves on the State Board of Community Colleges and the regional Workforce Investment Board.
He plans to run as an independent.
Helgeson, 42, secured the Republican Party nomination earlier this month. A self-employed financial planner, he's prided himself while in office on both his fiscal conservatism and his advocacy for homeowners on development issues.
