A Madison Heights man was sentenced to five years in prison this week after being convicted of 177 counts of possession of child pornography.
Corey Dean Meeks, 41, pleaded guilty in March to keeping the images on his computers. He was arrested a year ago, when authorities said he had a yearlong
relationship with a Virginia Beach police officer posing as a 12-year-old girl.
In an earlier interview, Amherst Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Maddox said Meeks sent more than three dozen suggestive images of adults and children to the police officer.
Maddox said Meeks admitted to collecting pornography for five years. Photos found on his computers depicted minors ranging in age from toddlers to young teens, she said.
Amherst County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Chris Smith said a Medical College of Virginia pediatrician noted that at least 800 images appeared to be of underage subjects.
The prosecutor said the sentencing guidelines in Meeks’ case called for as much as 178 years in prison.
Judge J. Michael Gamble sentenced Meeks to 354 years in prison Monday, but suspended all but five years. Gamble ordered Meeks to serve 20 years probation.

(Crispy).. Forgive me, but I would like to plumb the depths of your hypocrisy. You have no problem with the kind of pornography you enjoy. Between “consenting adults”. You are, no doubt, aware that underage girls are often used in these productions and that drug addiction, poverty and hideously low self esteem are often at play. But we will ignore that for the moment. Hypothetically, if ALL child pornography were replaced by “simulated” pornography, a la PIXAR type productions, indistinguishable from reality, and NO CHILD were ever to be harmed…. how would you feel? How many years in jail should someone get for looking at fake (but really life-like) pictures? I’m betting nothing would change. I’m betting the fact that children get hurt is a “red herring” and that all our society is really after is punishing people for a sexual orientation they had NOTHING TO DO with choosing. Just like you and I. Nobody is taking the side of this poor slob from Madison Heights. But, since no mention is made in his indictment of him ever molesting anybody I am forced to assume he didn’t. That is how the law works. So, he is guilty of “thought crime”. Apparently 178 years in prison worth of “thought crime”. What “thoughts” will be a crime tomorrow? Why do I get the feeling that if it were up to a vote being gay would be a crime in Lynchburg? As it is, it might as well be. Again, a sexual orientation that nobody has a choice in. Do you not see ANY problems here. Please think about this. I am truly interested in your thoughts.

( crispy daisy )? Please show me where in my post I defended ANY KIND of pornography? You appear to think pornography that just so happens to titillate YOU harmless. You admit you didn’t choose your sexual orientation. Then, you go on to claim that “others” who didn’t choose their sexual orientation either are evil incarnate. My contention was…“It’s insane and a product of a society that is too immature to even discuss sex.“.. [I posted]...“Every 2 seconds somebodies kid STARVES TO DEATH on this planet and I am supposed to feel good about spending $50,000 a year to warehouse a guy who gets off looking at pictures!“.. AND THAT leads you to believe I don’t care about children? Pay attention much?

cosmo
are you saying that it is okay to molest children because it has been going on since the begining of time? How do you know this guy hasn’t molested a child are you psychic?

cosmo, I submitted a comment that may not make it past the moderator, so I’ll clean this one up a little bit.
Porn involving consenting adults—in any combination of sexes—doesn’t bother me.
I’m quite sure that men like this one didn’t choose to find pictures of sex with children to be stimulating, but that doesn’t excuse the horrific things done to children in order for them to find gratification.
For there to be photos or video of grown men having sex with TODDLERS and young children, those toddlers and young children had to have been raped or otherwise sexually abused while someone was photographing them. I have also read about porn involving infants as young as a few weeks old being raped by grown men. It rips apart their insides. Do you think these children are willing participants?
Looking at the pictures of children being sexually violated may not be quite as bad as doing the violating, but because there are people willing to pay to look at those photos and videos, other people are going to continue to record unspeakable things being done to children to meet the demand.
I can’t remember ever seeing someone defend child pornography before—it’s really disturbing to think that you find it harmless.
Regarding this quote from your post: “Pedophilia has always been around. The Greeks built a Golden Age of knowledge and philosophy while diddling around with boys”—ancient cultures used to sacrifice children to the gods, too. Do you think that makes it OK?

( Chico1 ) The guy was convicted of looking at pictures! He was not charged with EVER molesting anyone. As far as your statement: ..“in Amherst County it is totally okay to molest a child or have child porn”.. Speak for YOURSELF. Most of us don’t share your family customs.

Crispy, Old Girl, the whole thing is too absurd to even think about. Do you really think this poor slob CHOSE to be turned on by pictures of little kids? Did YOU choose your sexual orientation? I sure didn’t! Did this guy ever touch or harm anybody? Here is where I am at Crisp. Every 2 seconds somebodies kid STARVES TO DEATH on this planet and I am supposed to feel good about spending $50,000 a year to warehouse a guy who gets off looking at pictures! In case you have not noticed, SEX appears to come in as many varieties as there are people. The internet is , or appears to be, 80% porn. I have REAL questions about the “Law enforcement officers” who spend their days looking at these pictures and pretending to be little girls themselves. DUH! Face it, if I were a pedophile, scouting, coaching, ministering to children and now, law enforcement would be very attractive ways to spend my time. How do you feel about people who can’t wait to gawk at accident victums along the road whenever there is an accident? 178 years in prison for “looking”? It’s insane and a product of a society that is too immature to even discuss sex. If you have ever read what I post you must know I am an Atheist from a LONG line of Atheists. But I agree with “Old Time Religion” on this point. Adulterous women (and women who make a living posing for pornography) should be stoned to death. Men are sheep and too easilly lead with regard to sex. Marriage is disintegrating in our society as a result of pornography (in all it’s forms) giving young men and boys the idea that any woman worth a dime should act like a whore. Men are too visual and too weak to fix this problem. Women must both police their own and STOP supporting other women who, like Paris Hilton and SO MANY others, degrade you, my mother, wife, daughter and grand daughters. Pedophilia has always been around. The Greeks built a Golden Age of knowledge and philosophy while diddling around with boys. It’s just a question of “priorities” CD.

As we all know in Amherst County it is totally okay to molest a child or have child porn. Young children are molested every day and because they are “too young to testify” the sick perverts get away with it. Five years is nothing this guy is probably already molested kids and will continue to do so for the rest of his life.

Cosmo, I’m not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that you think five years is too much for this guy?

..“Judge J. Michael Gamble sentenced Meeks to 354 years in prison Monday, but suspended all but five years.“.. For looking at pictures. A few weeks ago he sentenced a guy to 5 years for burning a women’s house to the ground thinking she was in it. Must be something about (Five Years) this guy likes saying.
