A teenager who had been in a car crash more than a week ago died Sunday.

Investigators are awaiting word from the medical examiner’s office about the exact cause of 15-year-old Rochelle Jones’ death.

Jones was a passenger in a car that crashed in Madison Heights on Oct. 10, sending six people to the hospital, said Sgt. David Cooper of the Virginia State Police.

Sometime after 10 p.m. that night, Laiquita Horsley, of Lynchburg, was driving west on Riverview Road parallel to Virginia 210 when she overcorrected and ran her Nissan Maxima off the side of the road, striking several trees, according to Trooper D.E. Ferrell, who investigated the crash.

She had five passengers in the car. Ferrell said their injuries were classified as “serious to critical.” All six were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital.

Charges have not yet been filed.
