Lynchburg Police said driver inattention was to blame for the crash that involved a city school bus and sent three people to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

No children were aboard the bus.

Officer Ronnie Sitler said Amy Mays, 22, of Madison Heights, drove her 1996 Ford Contour across the center line on Mayflower Drive about 2:10 p.m, colliding with the bus.

Mays was driving north, Sitler said, and crossed the line when her car headed into a curve.

Mays’ passenger, Lauren Williams, 23, had to be extricated from the car by fire and rescue workers.

He and Mays were both taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with injuries Sitler said were not life-threatening.

The bus driver, Fran Morton, 40, of Evington, also went to the hospital, he said, but went in a personal vehicle.

Mays was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
