Local crime programs recognized at Williamsburg conference

Two local programs that help crime victims and witnesses were recognized at a conference in Williamsburg on Thursday.
Lynchburg’s victim-witness program was named the 2008 Program of the Year by the state.
Campbell County victim-witness advocate Pam Cooke received the Most Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Network for Victims and Wit-nesses of Crime.
Lynchburg victim-witness ad-vocate Susan Clark said the Criminal Injuries and Compensa-tion Fund’s staff came to Lynchburg to train the city police force and also conducted a re-gional training program for social workers, medical personnel, law enforcement and victim advo-cates.
Staffers from the Lynchburg office were also recognized for traveling to Blacksburg to help victims of the Virginia Tech massacre.
