Central Virginia Community College this Monday will educate area students interested in entering the school’s collaborative four-year engineering program through the University of Virginia.

CVCC will hold an open house Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to explain the program, new scholarship opportunities and expanded curricula. Corporate sponsors also will be on hand to discuss work/study openings, which include tuition cost-cutting packages and future full-time employment.

The engineering program began in 2007 as a remedy to the burgeoning demand for engineers in Central Virginia. CVCC, UVa’s Department of Engineering and nuclear company Areva NP forged an agreement that allows qualified students at CVCC to earn UVa bachelor’s degrees in engineering through studies conducted in Lynchburg.

The program now offers an expanded curricula, including a discipline in wireless technology in addition to mechanical, electrical and material science course studies.

The open house will be held at CVCC’s Merritt Hall, in the Multi-purpose Room on the school’s main campus in Lynchburg.
