RUSTBURG — Campbell County planning commissioners Monday unanimously recommended approval for a proposed cell phone tower in Evington.
The tower, which would be operated by AT&T Wireless, is planned near the intersection of Leesville Road and Buffalo Mill Road.
Two residents spoke in favor of the proposal and three spoke in opposition, saying a tower would harm viewsheds and potentially lower property values. Two residents suggested alternative locations, including co-locating on a Campbell County Utilities and Services Authority water tower about a mile north of the proposed location.
“It’s one of those things you just have to live with,” commission chairman Patrick Tweedy said. “The location may not be the best place, but they got to go somewhere. They’re going to be in somebody’s backyard.”
