A Friday afternoon wreck in Campbell County critically injured a Concord woman, after an SUV collided with her sedan near Rustburg.
Emergency workers finally extricated 50-year-old Diane Davis from her car, after a one-and-a-half hour entrapment. She was not wearing her seatbelt.
Davis was flown by medical helicopter to Lynchburg General Hospital, where at last check Friday night, she was still in the operating room, in critical condition.
The wreck happened about 3:20 p.m. on Virginia 24, at its intersection with Greenhouse Road, near Rustburg.
Sgt. David Cooper of the Virginia State Police said Rodney Easley, 21, of Rustburg, was traveling East on Virginia 24, and hit his brakes to avoid a rear-end collision with a turning vehicle.
Easley’s 2001 Chevrolet Blazer ended up in the westbound lane, where it collided with Davis’ 2003 Honda Civic.
Easley was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt.
Police shut down the stretch of Virginia 24 for about two hours, Cooper said.
Easley was charged with reckless driving.
Trooper M.D. Okuley is investigating the accident.
